Pavuluri Lab Regions of Interest
ROIs are defined in Talairach space. Voxels along the longitudinal
fissure are designated as R£0, L³1, where x=0 is allotted to the R-side of the brain. ROIs are defined anatomically and drawn from
a merged structural image of 15 healthy subjects. Citations are included below.

Description

|
Amygdala
|
62
|
61
|
Defined anatomically. Traced in coronal view.
Ant: presence of anterior commissure, slice w/ brightest medial
point
Post: slice where any hippocampus is visable
Sup: medially by the entorhinal sulcus, Laterally, draw a line
from lateral point of ES to white matter of insular cortex
Inf: white matter of the
uncus
Med: CSF
Lat: white matter of
insular cortex
|
|
Nucleus Accumbens
|
64
|
63
|
Defined anatomically. Traced in coronal view.
Ant: rostral end of ventral caudate/putamenal junction
Post: last slice with the midline decussation of AC
Sup: line that connects the inferiormost tip of the lateral
ventricle to the ventral point of the IC.
Inf: white matter
Med: line which includes all gray matter next to the white matter
tract
Lat: vertical line drawn from tip of internal capsule to the
white matter

|
Orbital Frontal Cortex
|
66
|
65
|
Defined anatomically. Traced in coronal view.
Lat: Intermediate, lateral orbital sulcus;
Anterior, frontomarginal sulcus; Posterior, orbito insular sulcus
Med: Anterior, superior rostral sulcus; Posterior &
Intermediate, olfactory sulcus
Post: most posterior coronal slice containing some aspect of the
posterior medial OFG
|
|
Superior Frontal Cortex
|
68
|
67
|
Defined anatomically. Traced in coronal view.
Ant:vVaries. Typically the
frontomarginal sulcus or superior rostral sulcus
Post: anterior tip of inner surface of CC
Inf: Posterior, cingulate sulcus; Anterior,
superior rostral sulcus
Med: superior margin of the hemisphere
Lat: Deepest point of superior rostral sulcus
|
|
Hippocampus
|
70
|
69
|
Defined anatomically. Traced in coronal view.
Ant: sagittal slice where the temporal horn of the lateral
ventricle curves downwards at a 90 degree angle
Post: last viewable coronal slice w/ hippocampus
Sup: follow the alveus
Inf: white matter located inferior to hippocampus. Include subiculum
Med: CSF inuncal cistern.
Include subiculum
Lat: CSF of temporal horn of lateral ventricle.
|
|
Parahippocampal Gyrus
|
72
|
71
|
Defined anatomically. Traced in coronal view.
Ant: temporal horn of lateral ventricle
Post: first view of calcarine sulcus
Sup: subliculum
Inf: end of cerebrum, no uncus
Med: CSF in uncal cistern
Lat: beginning of collateral
sulcus, straight line to hippocampus
|
|
Inferior Frontal Gyrus
|
74
|
73
|
Defined anatomically. Traced in axial view.
Ant: vertical line from anterior tip of inferior frontal sulcus
to frontomarginal sulcus or lateral orbital sulcus
Post: precentral sulcus
Sup: inferior frontal sulcus that runs anterior &
perpendicular to the inferior segment of the precentral sulcus
Inf: frontromarginal sulcus or lateral orbital sulcus in the
anterior part or the superior circular sulcus of insula at level of the
frontal operculum
Med: circular sulcus of insula
Lat: meeting of inferior frontal sulcus & precentral sulcus
|
Ant = anterior; Post =
posterior; Sup = superior; Inf = inferior; Med = medial; Lat = lateral
