Autism Center of Excellence (ACE) at UIC
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development recently launched
the Autism Centers of Excellence (ACE), a federally funded effort to develop
multidisciplinary research on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). UIC is 1 of 5 ACE
sites and is undergoing a large-scale investigation of the genetic, neurobiological,
and cognitive features of individuals with ASD. This project also aims to investigate
pharmacological agents useful for treating autism. Participation takes place at both
the Center for Cognitive Medicine (CCM) led by Dr. John Sweeney (Director of CCM)
and Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR) led
by Dr. Edwin Cook (Director of the Laboratory of Developmental Neuroscience) and Dr.
Tom Owley (Director of Neurodevelopmental Pharmacology Clinic).
