Dr. Prensky is a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor within the Department of Psychiatry at UIC. Dr. Prensky is part of the Health Psychology Service along with Dr. Susan Labott and Dr. Sarah Shelby, which is part of the Neurobehavior Program directed by Dr. Neil Pliskin. His clinical interests involve inpatient consultation and outpatient treatment with individuals who have a variety of presenting problems including sleep disorders, migraines, and chronic pain conditions. He also conducts pre-operative psychological evaluations for patients planning to have bariatric surgery. Additionally, Dr. Prensky conducts biofeedback-assisted relaxation training with medical patients (see link below).
Dr. Prensky is also involved in several clinical research projects as a member of the Center for Cognitive Medicine (CCM). One project that is in collaboration with Dr. John Sweeney focuses on using relaxation procedures to reduce distress among individuals planning to have an MRI. Additionally, Dr. Prensky is involved in the Non-epileptic Seizure Intervention Clinic with Dr. Gaston Baslet and Angela Roiko, MSW, which is a clinical-research endeavor in CCM. His previous research examined sensory and behavioral properties of a smokeless tobacco substitute following a laboratory-induced stressor.
Dr. Prensky earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Texas Tech University under the mentorship of Dr. Lee Cohen . He completed his clinical psychology internship (with an emphasis on health psychology) at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago , IL . Dr. Prensky also completed a one-year post-doctoral fellowship in health psychology at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood , IL .
