Dr. Corcos obtained his Ph.D. (l982) in Motor Control from the University of Oregon after obtaining his Master's Degree in Psychology in l980. He completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Department of Neurosurgery at Rush Medical Center from l983-l987.
Prof. Corcos conducts research into motor deficits associated with Parkinson's disease. He is also interested in how different neurosurgical interventions facilitate the control of movement in Parkinson's disease. He uses fMRI to understand the neural control of movement and force generation in both health and disease. The long term goal is to develop behavioral paradigms that reveal lawful human behavior for which the neural substrates can then be elucidated by a combination of technologies including fMRI and deep brain stimulation.
He has been continuously funded by NIH since 1986. He has been involved in teaching 4th grade children neuroscience through the Global Village program in Oak Park, and has had High School students conduct research in his laboratory. In addition he enjoys coaching soccer.
