Our treatment program at the Center for Cognitive Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago emphasizes individualized CBT interventions for problems related to having a psychotic disorder, such as persistent positive or negative symptoms, problems meeting life goals, maintaining stability and health, or interpersonal difficulties. Appropriate formal psychiatric diagnoses would often include (but not be necessarily limited to) persons suffering from schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or mood disorders complicated by persistent psychotic symptoms. CBT treatment is one part of the comprehensive clinical care we offer for patients diagnosed with a psychotic disorder. This therapy does not take the place of medication treatment, but serves as an addition to medical treatment provided by the patient’s primary treating physician.
