The University of Illinois at Chicago - Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry Fellowship Training Program
The Neuropsychiatry and Neurobehavior Programs at the University of Illinois at Chicago offer an
interdisciplinary UCNS accredited two-year fellowship in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry
(http://www.ucns.org/apps/directory/). The fellowship is open to qualified individuals who have
completed an accredited residency training program in Neurology or in Psychiatry and board
eligible for ABPN.
The program's goal is to train fellows as skilled clinicians, researchers and educators in
neurodegenerative diseases, neuropsychiatric and neurobehavioral syndromes as well as in
cognitive neuroscience. Our distinguished faculty include neurologists, psychiatrists,
neuropsychologists, neuroradiologists, physiatrists, and neuroscientists.
The University of Illinois at Chicago is a university tertiary care facility located a
few miles west of Chicago's downtown Loop. The first year emphasizes clinical skills,
with didactic activities including a weekly lecture series, weekly journal club and research
seminars, and monthly interdisciplinary case conferences, and supervised in- and outpatient
clinical rotations. Fellows participate in weekly Neurobehavior consultation service rounds,
rotate through allied subspecialty clinics and receive training in neuroimaging, including
functional neuroimaging (SPECT, PET, and fMRI). In the second year, fellows assume a more
independent role in clinical activities and in teaching residents and junior fellows, and
formulate and carry out a mentored research project. Our faculty have ongoing research which
includes projects in neuroepidemiology, Vascular Cognitive Impairment, normal cognitive aging,
effects of sex steroid hormones on cognitive function, executive function and oculomotor
abnormalities in TBI and schizophrenia, and functional neurosurgery for neurologic and
psychiatric disorders.
